The second annual National Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility “Social responsibility of business in Russia: New Challenges and Prospects” was held on December 11, 2008 in Moscow. The forum was initiated by the Public Chamber Commission on Social Development, the Accounting Chamber of Russia and a group of leading centers of expertise in the field of social development. The forum was attended by representatives of a number of leading Russian and international companies and nonprofit organizations, including - IFC Capital, VTB Bank, Systema, Gazprom Neft, Renova Group of Companies, OJSC SUEK, RSPP, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dow Chemical, ISO, IBE "Business Culture". I Eurasian Summit "Corporate Social Responsibility: Strategy and Best Practices for Sustainable Development in Eurasia" was held in Kiev on January 27, 2009. The organizers of the summit were Russia's Managers Association, Graduate School of Management, Kommersant (Ukraine) and the UN Development Program (Russia). The main purpose of the summit - the creation of a permanent training site for the leading companies in Eurasian countries to exchange experience on corporate social responsibility, to discuss current issues and trends in CSR, as well as developing cross-national models and standards in this area. There were about 200 participants from Russia and countries of Eurasia - the representatives of top management of major corporations, international organizations and NGOs in CSR, public authorities, business and socio-political mass media, experts and academics, including - Telenor, IFC "Capital", "Severstal», ArcelorMittal, DTEK, Philips, Procter & Gamble, the European Commission and AccountAbility. Welcoming address to participants of the summit was made by the Dean of the Graduate School of Management Valery Katkalo. Yury Blagov, Director of the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility GSOM, presented a report on "CSR in Russia: Lessons from the national report on social investment". The program of the summit included workshops on topical management issues of corporate social activities which are conducted by Andrew Kakabadse (School of Management Krenfildskogo University, UK) and Maurizio Zolli (University of Commerce. The Graduate School of Management has become an intellectual partner of Russia's Association of Managers under the People Investor 2009 project. The main aim of the partnership is to strengthen the analytical component of a successful project, which was firstly implemented in 2008. The mission of the project is to reveal and spread best practices and innovations in business social responsibility in order to raise the level of transparency, competitiveness and sustainability of Russian companies. As part of the project the investigation of the best corporate practices, volume and structure of investment in human potential will be held. A large international Forum and the competition for the People Investor 2009 Award will take place. <a href="/en/professors/katkalo/">Valery Katkalo</a>, Dean of GSOM St. Petersburg State University, and Sergey Litovchenko, Executive officer of the Russia's Association of Managers will be the co-chairmens of the Expert Council of the project. <a href="/en/professors/blagov/">Yury Blagov</a>, Director of the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility GSOM, was invited as a scientific director of the project. The presentation of the English version of "Report on Social Investments in Russia - 2008" was held in the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University on May 22, 2009. The report was prepared in 2008 by the Russia's Association of Managers under the project of the UN Development Program of promoting the Global Compact with the participation of the Graduate School of Management and supported by the Strategic Fund program of the British Embassy. At this event <a href="/en/professors/blagov/">Yury Blagov</a>, Lead Author, Director of the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility GSOM, presented the main findings of the report. Moreover, Olga Golodets, chairman of the Association of Managers on Corporate Responsibility, made a presentation on the impact of the crisis on the development of CSR in Russia, after which the participants of the event discussed the current issues of conducting business in a socially responsible manner.

International Forum under the People Investor 2009 project was held in Moscow on November 27, 2009. The Forum contained different meetings on the topic of maintenance and development of human potential during the crisis. Moreover, on the Forum the awarding ceremony of the winners, who demonstrated the best corporate practices in the areas of human resource management, building relations with business partners, and community development was held. <a href="/en/professors/blagov/">Yury Blagov</a>, Director of the <a href="/en/csr/">Center CSR PricewaterhouseCoopers</a> GSOM, presented the results of the research «People Investor 2009: Indicators of Russia's business development" on the plenary session of the Forum. On December 1, 2009 GSOM held a round table discussion on "Ethical codes of business: theory and practice”. The event was organized by the Center for corporate social responsibility of PricewaterhouseCoopers GSOM and the Ethics Department of the Philosophy Faculty of St. Petersburg State University. During the discussion some important problems of drawing up ethical codes, their application in management practices, as well as assessment of the effectiveness of ethical codes. Candidates are welcome to build on significant projects or situations they are experiencing in their own national environment. They are expected to bring forward innovative ideas and proposals. The form of the contribution may be a free form essay (maximum 6,000 words), a business plan, or a multimedia presentation. Every semester the Graduate School of Management organizes Introduction Week for new exchange students. Spring Semester 2010 was not an exception. The first week of February was full of impressions: exchange students, for the first time during their staying in Russia could deeply plunge into the Russian culture and gain a clear insight of how domestic and foreign companies operate in Russian market. During this week students have visited “Baltika Brewery Company” (the leading company on the Russian beer market), “Lubimyj Kraj Company” (one of the leaders on the Russian confectionary market), “PriceWaterhouseCoopers Company”. Students also were offered to attend guest lectures of «City Bank» and «British American Tobacco Company». Exchange students also visited storage of world and Russian masterpieces of art – the State Hermitage Museum, had an excursion to Peter and Paul Fortress and to Petergof, a palace complex near St Petersburg. Moreover, students had a great opportunity to visit Mariinsky Theatre, world-known historic theatre of opera and ballet in St Petersburg, and to go to Shuvalovka, a real Russian village where students could see the traditional Russian architectural complexes, learn some interesting things about Russian handicrafts and had a lot of fun: they were skiing, playing traditional Russian games, dancing around the fire (because it was the time of Maslenica, traditional Russian holiday), eating traditional Russian food (pan cakes and pelmeni). Thus, exchange students got unforgettable exciting experience about Russia in general and Russian culture in particular.
