Welcome to the information site of the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University, created within the framework of the Russian National Priority Project in Education on the foundation of the School of Management (SOM). We are grateful for your interest towards GSOM and its programs aimed at developing professional managers of the modern type. The major priority of our work is to maintain the compliance of the GSOM academic programs with the rapidly growing demand for management education of international quality on the part of the Russian companies and public authorities, which is connected with the growing internationalization of the Russian economy and the country’s forthcoming joining WTO.
Over the course of its 16 years of development, the School of Management at St. Petersburg State University has gained reputation of one of the leading Russian business school. The School was opened at the oldest Russian university in 1993 with a view to support the formation of market economy in Russia. SOM was created in alliance with W. A. Haas Business School at the University of California, Berkeley - one of the leading business schools in the world. The uniqueness of the GSOM development model is predetermined by this successful synthesis of the classical university traditions and innovational approaches in business education. The adherence to such strategic values as profound internationalization of academic and research projects, accentuation of new knowledge creation and intensive links with the business community is the necessary condition for further connecting the GSOM business model with those of the leading international management schools.
Owing to the achievements in these three directions the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University is today the national leader in integration into the world system of business education. GSOM is developing a portfolio of degree programs that is unique for Russian management schools: from the Bachelor’s Degree to the MBA and the Doctoral Program, three of which (the Master of International Business (MIB) Program, the Master in International Technology and Innovation Management (MITIM) Program and Dual Degree Executive MBA) are taught in English only and meet the requirements of European professional organizations.

GSOM has 34 academic partners among the World leading business schools and universities, organizing student exchanges based on bilateral credit’s transfer. Another acknowledgement of the international level of our academic programs was the fact that in 2005, for the first time in the Russian history, the SOM student team took the 3rd prize in the global competition E-strat Challenge held by L’Oreal. In recent years the School has also become a prominent center of scientific research in management: it publishes two prestigious research journals (Russian Management Journal and Vestnik (Bulletin) of St. Petersburg University, Management Series); the pilot series of full-scale case-study collections integrating the experience of the Russian companies was published. GSOM’s close cooperation with leading corporations which is unprecedented for Russian business education is also of particular importance. The successful international fund-raising campaign carried out by the Board of Advisors in order to finance the reconstruction of the new classroom wing of the School is the symbol of these relations.
However, the successful careers of GSOM alumni are the main criterion in determining GSOM’s high standards of education. Nowadays their «family» accounts for more than 3000 professional managers working successfully in different regions of Russia and abroad, in the leading Russian and international companies. These are the companies which take part in our Career Days, provide the internship opportunities for GSOM students and recruit its alumni.
